Kiel, Germany - PhD position on Antimicrobial resistance evolution

 The PhD position is for 3,5 years with a possible extension for another 6 months. It is based in the Schulenburg group (https://evoecogen-kiel.de/) at Kiel University in Northern Germany. The PhD project aims at understanding how evolutionary principles can be harnessed to constrain bacterial adaptation to antimicrobial drugs. The specific focus is on the influence of mutation rates for resistance against different antimicrobials and associated evolutionary trade-offs, such as collateral sensitivity, on resistance evolution. As model pathogen, we will focus on UTI E. coli and/or lung-infecting Pseudomonas aeruginosa. The position will be integrated within the graduate school on Translational Evolutionary Research (https://transevo.de/), providing numerous opportunities for exchange with colleagues working on related topics.

 Your profile: Master of Science or equivalent; Master thesis or equivalent in the field of Evolutionary Biology or Microbiology; Competences and experiences in experimental as well as molecular laboratory work with microorganisms; Knowledge in the field of statistics or bioinformatics; English language skills at level C1

 Beneficial: Competences and experience in experimental research on antimicrobial resistance; Competences and experience in performance of evolution experiments; Competences and experience in genome analysis and in genetic manipulation of mikroorganisms; Publication(s) from earlier research work
