The McLean Lab (https://sites.google.com/view/mclean-lab/lab) at the University of North Carolina Greensboro (https://biology.uncg.edu/) is recruiting a PhD level student to investigate phenotypic and life history responses of western North American mammals to environmental change. Our lab combines museum specimens, digitized trait datasets, genomic data, and targeted field resurveys to understand how energetically important traits (e.g., body size, morphology, and reproduction) vary across landscapes and through time. We value applications from prospective lab members interested in mammalogy, specimen-based research, biodiversity informatics, and quantitative biology. Prior experience in mammal-related fieldwork, 2D/3D morphometrics, and/or linear modeling experience in R is strongly preferred.
 
Research in the lab bridges mammalian evolution and ecology and relies on an integrative toolkit including fieldwork and specimen collection, biodiversity informatics, machine learning, phylogenomics and landscape genomics, and trait evolution. Accepted students will lead projects leveraging data from hundreds of thousands of newly digitized specimen-level traits, the NEON Biorepository, and the lab’s recent work in sky islands of the Great Basin to pinpoint phenotypic and life history responses to environmental change across space and time.
