The research group of John Pool at the University of Wisconsin - Madison invites applications for a 1 year lab tech position. 
The Pool Lab has a strong focus on population genomics and the genetics of adaptive evolution (especially with regard to local adaptation), and it supports an emerging emphasis on the genetics of early stage reproductive isolation.  Most of the lab's projects leverage the natural diversity and experimental power of Drosophila melanogaster, while other projects are driven by population genetic simulations, methods, or data resources. 
The major research focus of this position is distinct - it emphasizes looking at looking at variation within common laboratory strains of Drosophila melanogaster.  We have evidence that different labs' copies of these strains are very different at the genetic level, which threatens the reproducibility of Drosophila research.  Thus, it's critically important for the research going on in thousands of Drosophila labs that we sort out what variation exists within these nominal strains and identify uncontaminated versions of them that the whole fly research community can work with going forward. The position in question will coordinate the receipt and handling of fly stocks from labs around the world, and will lead studies of phenotype-level variation among these sub-strains (in part by mentoring undergraduate researchers).  The hired individual will also help with other research projects in the lab as they're able to, and they will held with various lab support tasks.
