Postdoctoral Fellowship -- American Museum of Natural History -- Department of Ornithology The DeRaad Lab at the American Museum of Natural History (AMNH) is recruiting a postdoctoral fellow to investigate the evolutionary genomics of birds. Fellows will be expected to utilize and contribute to the exceptional American Museum of Natural History ornithology collection. Supported research topics could include population genetics, conservation genetics, and speciation, with projects grounded in museum ornithology. The postdoctoral fellow will be encouraged to develop independent research ideas, while also getting the opportunity to plug into existing projects as desired. The AMNH is a vibrant and supportive environment where the postdoctoral fellow will get to interact with an active research community. The postdoctoral fellow will also have access to a multitude of professional development opportunities offered by AMNH and nearby universities (Columbia, CUNY, NYU, etc.). The annual salary will be $73,316 plus benefits. This is a full-time position with a 2 year appointment length and the possibility of further extension pending satisfactory work reviews. Responsibilities: The postdoc will generate and lead data analysis for both short read and long read genomic sequence data. Relevant experience could include working in a molecular lab extracting DNA and preparing DNA libraries for sequencing. Additionally, a qualified candidate must have experience designing and implementing bioinformatic pipelines for assembling genomes, variant calling, and performing population genetic / phylogenetic analyses. Familiarity working with avian museum specimens and handling degraded DNA (either in the lab or in silico) is a plus. Required qualifications: Ph.D. or equivalent in evolutionary biology, computational biology, or related fields and demonstrated record of productivity and publications. Experience with processing and analyzing genomic data, computer programming (e.g., python; R), genomics, molecular evolution, and avian biology. Contact and Application: To apply, please send a cover letter explaining your qualifications and interest in the position (one page), a complete CV, and the contact information for two references, by email as a single pdf file to Devon DeRaad (devonderaad@gmail.com) with the title “Chapman Postdoc Fellowship”.
