Research position available for the project: Testing temporal genomic shifts in exploited fish populations using ancient and environmental DNA (ATRAE programme; REF ATR2023144170 funded by MICIU/AEI/10.13039/501100011033) We are looking for a postdoctoral researcher (Doctor FC3) to work on an interdisciplinary project on temporal genomic shiQs in exploited salmon populaSons, using ancient and historical DNA (OLDSALMO). The project is based at the ACUABIOTEC Lab at the InsStute of Marine Research (IIM-CSIC) in Vigo (Spain). OLDSALMO is a 4-year project funded by the ATRAE programme that is using AtlanSc salmon as study species to develop novel approaches to assess the roles of overfishing and climate change in populaSon declines (h]ps://oldsalmo.csic.es). This is a one year posiSon starSng January 2027. Requisites: PhD in molecular ecology, populaSon genomics or similar and, ideally but not necessarily, experience working with degraded DNA (ancient or environmental) and aquaSc environments. The posiSon involves analysing ancient genomic data already available to assess populaSon changes overSme as well as producing and analysing historical genomic and phenotypic data and relate them to environmental change. We are looking for someone enthusiasSc and flexible, looking to learn new things and contribuSng their experSse to the project in collaboraSon with 2 PhD students based at the IIM and collaborators at Swansea University, the University of Cantabria (EvoAdapta & IIIPC), the University of Harvard (Reich’s lab), the regional government of Cantabria (Direccion General de Montes y Biodiversidad) and the University of Viena (Gelabert’s lab). The postdoctoral researcher will be responsible for data producSon and analyses, manuscript preparaSon, disseminaSon of project results in conferences (naSonal and internaSonal) and outreach, and will have the opportunity to cosupervise undergraduate and postgraduate students. To apply for this position, please send a CV and letter of intention to Prof Sofia Consuegra, sconsuegra@iim.csic.es. Deadline for applications is the 14 of August 2026 and interviews will take place the first week of September via zoom. (to subscribe/unsubscribe the EvolDir send mail to evoldir@evoldir.net)
